Reminders for Healthy Living
Drink Water – Have one or two glasses on arising and every couple of hours through the day. Sweetened beverages have very little hydrating effect.
Eat Breakfast – Eating breakfast, especially protein, helps to increase our energy and brain power through the day.
Eat Vegetables – Mom was right, eat several servings of vegetables daily, especially above ground vegetables and dark, leafy greens.
Avoid Sugar and Refined Carbs – Candies, sodas, sweetened drinks, chips, crackers, cookies and flour products are all high in empty calories and significantly contribute to diabetes. Get off gluten — a protein found in wheat, spelt, barley, and rye that can disturb digestion, cause poor absorption of nutrients and disturb the brain and immune system.
Move Your Body – Do something every day, walk, dance, yoga, hike, lift weights or garden.
Laugh – Laughter is a form of internal massage and increases our feel good hormones.
Sing – Music and art are joyous and healing.
Relationships – Nourish and appreciate all your relationships.
Massage – Get or give one to a friend, to reduce stress, pain and to feel connected.
Sleep – We all need 7-9 hours of sleep to repair, rebuild and refresh our brains and bodies. Best hours to sleep are between 9 pm and 6 am.Breathe – Observe your breath often, learn to breathe more deeply.
Meditate – Daily meditation supports health and happiness, reduces stress and the need for sleep.
