Intermittant Fasting (IF) compresses daily eating into a 6 to 8 hour window. This means 18 hours of fasting.

The benefits of IF are:

A typical IF day would look like this:

IF can be done twice weekly, eat normally the other five days.

You may have to start initially with less fasting time, and slowly increase the length of the fast.

Now here's the good news. You can still have your bulletproof coffee with pasture butter and MCT oil and still qualify as fasting.

When we fast, it takes about eight hours to use up glycogen stores and switch to fat burning for energy. So because we are burning fat while fasting, we can take in dietary fats and the body still thinks we are fasting.

You can have the benefits of bulletproof coffee, extra energy, increased mental focus and elimination of hunger, fatigue and cravings, while still getting the benefits of fasting.

Take a good quality organic coffee (or green white or black tea), make two cups, add 1-3 tablespoons of unsalted pasture butter, like Kerrygold or Organic Valley, and 1-2 tablespoons of MCT oil, which is a derivative of coconut oil, commonly used for weight loss, sports endurance and more recently for Alzheimer's dementia. Put the coffee, butter and MCT oil in a blender or 1 quart jar, blend or shake tor twenty seconds until the fats are emulsified into the coffee, like a latte.

If you absolutely have to sweeten it, use a small amount of stevia or xylitol, as these won't trigger the release of insulin. You can try adding cinnamon or unsweetened cocoa powder. Start with 1 tablespoon of butter and a tablespoon or less of MCT oil. Increase gradually. Until you accommodate to higher amounts it could cause a stomachache or loose stools.

Most people who use bulletproof coffee rave about the benefits and taste. Enjoy the benefits of coffee, pasture butter, MCT oil and fasting!
